Exit devices are life-safety hardware — the code-mandated egress path in assembly, institutional and high-occupancy buildings runs through them, and it's the one product category on this site where a substitution error is a life-safety issue, not just an inconvenience. PINARS stocks rim, surface vertical rod (SVR) and concealed vertical rod (CVR) exit devices from Von Duprin and Falcon, the two manufacturers most frequently called out by name on architectural hardware schedules.
Devices are supplied in the touchpad and crossbar styles most commonly specified, in standard door widths (typically 36" and 48"), with the trim, cylinder dogging and alarm/exit-alarm options manufacturers publish for each model line. Because these are UL-listed assemblies, PINARS ships them exactly as received from primary distribution — factory-sealed, unmodified, with the listing label intact — since altering a listed life-safety assembly voids its certification.
For fire-rated door openings, exit devices must be paired with fire-listed trim and, in most jurisdictions, cannot include exterior dogging — if you're specifying for a fire door assembly, flag this on your quote request so we confirm the correct fire-rated configuration before it ships.
Common questions
Can exit devices be dogged down on a fire door?
No — cylinder dogging that holds the latch retracted is prohibited on most fire-rated door assemblies in the U.S., since the door must be able to latch automatically on fire alarm activation. Confirm your local AHJ requirement at quote stage.
Do you supply devices with the UL label intact?
Yes. All exit devices ship exactly as received from primary distribution with the original manufacturer's UL listing label — we don't repackage or relabel life-safety hardware.
